The Most Romantic Beaches Favorites Continues…..
is one of the most romantic beaches is Amelia Island Florida. With it’s location near the border of Georgia, the Island has a true “southern” feel.
The live oaks, Spanish moss, salt marshes, sea oats, sand dunes and shrimp fleets (best shrimp you’ll ever eat) all remind me of my youth. My first love of beaches started as a young girl, when I lived near the coast of the Sea Islands in Georgia. Amelia Island is part of over 100 of those islands that stretch from South Carolina to Northern Florida on the Atlantic Coast.
Check out the historic Victorian Seaport of Fernandina Beach. You can take a walking tour down Centre Street and enjoy the sights of the beautifully restored Victorian homes and buildings. For a more romantic tour, take a horse drawn carriage ride. And when your done sightseeing, shopping, or antiquing, stop at the Palace Saloon for a “Pirate’s Punch”. The saloon, built in 1878 was a favorite hang out for ships captains and their mates. Let’s not forget the food! There’s everything from eclectic island food, to fine dining. And I can't forget to mention my favorite, the local shrimp and fresh seafood...Yummy!

The choices of accommodations on Amelia Island hotels are a lot more than the standard hotel room. They do offer those, but…You can stay right on the beach at the 1735 House B& B in Fernandina Beach, how romantic is that? There are many more romantic B & B’s on the island to choose from. Stay at a luxurious resort like…The 4-Diamond Amelia Island Plantation Resort. The gorgeous property has something for everyone. Their resort has championship golf, tennis, and a nature center. The spa and shopping (over 40,000 sq.ft.) are fabulous. They are even certified as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary! Check them out at www.aipfl.com/. If you and your honey are into roughing it, you can camp at Ft. Clinch State Park. There’s nothing like camping right on one of the most romantic beaches, and unspoiled beaches…waking up to the sounds of the ocean and the beautiful sunrise!

The real beauty is the Island itself! Horseback ride on the beach, kayak, sail, fish, take a Segway tour on Ft. George Island, enjoy a river cruise, go beachcombing (you might find some sharks teeth), explore the wildlife (like sea turtles, shorebirds, dolphins, and more), climb the oldest lighthouse in Florida, or… Just sit back, relax, enjoy the sunset and watch the shrimp boats come in...and enjoy each other. We sure did on our visit there! (Picture Below)

One final thought…about the weather. It gets a little chilly there in the winter. The area enjoys great weather most of the year, but the winter months (January & February) can dip down to 40’s at night & 60’s during the day, and that include the surf temp. To this Floridian, that is a little cold for sunbathing, swimming, or anything involving going near the water! But, hey if you’re from the freezing cold north, you may think that is a nice day at the beach! Apparently the migratory birds think it’s pretty nice! The winter is a great time for all of you “bird lovers” to enjoy some great bird watching.
Visit one of the most romantic beaches in Florida and make some memories!
