Ft. Myers Beach and my first winter in Florida

When I was 9 years old, my family moved to Cape Coral, Florida. It is not far from Ft. Myers Beach. Since we moved here in June, we had some time to adjust by the time December rolled around. My mom realized that my brother and I had never had a Christmas without snow. Since Florida doesn’t really get too cold, it was easy to find a day near Christmas that we could go to the beach.
When we got to Ft. Myers Beach, my mom suggested all the usual, fun, winter things to do, for example: making sand angels, attempting a sand ball fight, and of course, building a sand man. We hesitated at first because it was obviously not the same thing as snow. She said that it was Florida snow and we could still have a lot of fun with it.
At that point, we started making the sand angels and realized that she was right! By the time we got around to making the sand man, my brother and I felt completely at home again.
Who knew that with a little quick thinking and creativity, you could bring a little bit of northern winter with you to Florida?
